The issue of limited water resources is recognized as a global problem along with climate change.
In addition to maintaining and improving the quality of water discharged from business sites into public waters, such as rivers and the sea, Denka recognizes the importance of using water resources efficiently given how essential they are for the continuation of our production activities.
We utilize water resources effectively to generate hydroelectric power.
There is also a connection between water resources and climate change. With certain bases predicted to be affected by drought, heavy rains, floods and other disasters, we believe it is important to carry out risk assessments and prepare for any projected risks.
In 2018, we used water risk mapping (Aqueduct) to assess water-related risks at each base within the Denka Group. There is elevated risk at our overseas bases in Singapore and China, and we recognized that countermeasures need to be considered.
As for each of our domestic bases, we have also commenced a detailed assessment of risk, evaluating the current volumes of water intake, discharge and circulation.
This fiscal year, we began responding to CDP’s Water Security Questionnaire, and going forward, we will work on reviewing water-related targets.
